First WSOP bracelet for a Texan pro David Baker
The World Series of Poker Event 37 – $2,500 buy-in Eight Game Mix finished with a victory of the 39-year-old Texan poker pro David Baker who finally managed to get his fits winner’s bracelet and claim the top prize of $271,312 this Friday. With this win, Baker’s total tournament earnings exceeded $2.5 million in some 74 cashes during 8-year professional career.
The event was entered by 476 players and the final table boasted impressive number of top professionals, including among others Greg Mueller, Kevin Calenzo, Joseph Couden, Donnacha O$Dea, Konstantin Puchkov, Chris McHugh and Chris Viox.
After Kevin Calenzo’s elimination and the third spot payout, Baker encountered Greg Mueller in the dynamic heads up which continued into Day 4 of the event with Mueller$s advantage of 3 to 1 chip before the final outcome.
Baker’s rich pro experience from even six previous WSOP final tables contributed to his focus and determination helping him to fight back while gradually improving gains.
After only an hour of the continued heads-up play, Baker succeeded in overtaking his rival and during the following sixty minutes of the match eventually beat Mueller who left home with $167,637 runner-up check.
